First Engineer - B.E.S. Energy Resources Co., Ltd.

The 1st Engineer is responsible for the supervision, planning and co-ordination of daily activities in the engine room department.
Ensuring that the Chief Engineer is kept fully informed of all engine room activities and developments and that no major repair or maintenance is carried out without the approval of the Chief Engineer.
Control and ordering of technical spares and consumables.
Coordinate testing and maintenance of machinery, equipment and emergency plant and keeping planned maintenance records up to date.
Monitoring of machinery to ensure efficient operation, to minimize fuel and oil consumption and to ensure maximum availability of machinery at all times.
Ensuring that watch keeping engineers carry out their duties efficiently and effectively and that they receive appropriate familiarization and instructions.
Ensuring that the Machinery Log Book is appropriately completed and maintained up to date and ensuring that machinery manuals and drawings are maintained.
Making sure that specific knowledge and experience is communicated to and shared with all people in the department.
Ensuring that Engine Room is manned at all times by a competent person capable of handling any emergency which might arise.
Ensuring that other departments are kept fully informed of any engine room activities which may affect them.
Performing emergency duties in accordance with the barge’s Muster List / Station Bill.
Ensuring that all technical activities under his jurisdiction are carried out in a safe and healthy manner and that the impact of the engineering department operations on the environment are within acceptable limits.
Ensuring that all machinery is in a safe condition and operated in a safe manner, and that all operations are carried out according to correct and safe procedures. Coordination of work permits within his area of jurisdiction (this may be in consultation with the Master / Chief Officer).
Participating as a member of the Barge Safety Committee.
